The easy work around for us was rather simple. We have a subscription to Office 365 and when Office 2013 comes out early next year, it won't run under XP--or so says Steve Ballmer in a Newsweek article from last summer. That was enough to get a fire lit on our end and we've swapped out nearly all of our XP systems minus a couple that we don't care about to Windows 7 Pro.
Now, in doing so, we've dumped the SFF desktops and have switched to the mini form factor PCs from Lenovo and are really liking them. Not only were they a lot less expensive than dropping in an SFF and extra video card to run dual monitors but they took up less space and in fact could be mounted on the bottom side of the desk to be completely out of the way. We now will only run SFF desktops if a user requires 3+ monitors with a high-end video card, which will be rare.
